Thinkwell Mathematics Transition Grants

How much money can a department earn?
Up to $25,000 per year, at the rate of $5 per registered Thinkwell student in each Thinkwell course. For example, each student who purchases a Thinkwell product and registers via the Thinkwell site will earn the department $5. A student taking two courses using Thinkwell's products will earn the department $10.

When is the department paid?
The departments will be paid approximately April 30 and October 31 of each year in the program.

What does it take to qualify?

  • Courses adopting Thinkwell must have total annual enrollment of 500 or more students.
  • Existing Thinkwell customers qualify only for courses where Thinkwell is not currently utilized.
  • Departments must agree to use Thinkwell during the two-year period in which the grant runs.
What can be done with the money?
Thinkwell believes no one knows the needs of a department better than the instructors who are teaching students every day. The funds are unrestricted. Although Thinkwell can supply some ideas on how to use the funds, your department may choose how to use the funds. You could, for example, buy equipment for classrooms or computer labs. We have seen the funds used effectively to provide incentives for faculty to encourage particular behavior in students. In these financially conservative times, there seems to be no lack of desired projects and outcomes that are underfunded.

What else does a department receive besides money?
  • Thinkwell performs a complete needs assessment to achieve the goals and objectives for your courses.
  • Thinkwell customizes its product to meet your objectives.
  • A customized website is prepared for each section.
  • Each instructor is trained to maximize the benefits of Thinkwell's methodology and tools.
  • Full technical support is provided for students and instructors.
  • An academic consultant is provided for ongoing customer service.
What are the steps in qualifying?
The best place to start is with a Thinkwell demonstration for all the potentially effected instructors. Once a department has a basic understanding of the features and benefits of the Thinkwell method, a more detailed needs analysis is performed. At this stage, delivery methods are planned (traditional classroom approach, hybrid courses, online courses, etc.) and content decisions are made.

When does it start and end?
The program is available immediately for implementation as early as the summer semester of 2007. This is a limited time offer and Thinkwell is not obliged to notify non-customers when the grant program is no longer available.
